About Us

The group of friends was started by ex-pats, for ex-pats. The main function of the organisation is to assist those ex-pats living, or about to live, in the Almanzora Valley area of Almería by the sharing of information and advice. It is totally self funding and is not affiliated to any political or religious organisation.

We have a library and information centre located in Calle Barcelona 3, Albox (400 metres from the Mercadona supermarket).

The centre is manned totally by volunteers and is open from 10:00am to 2:00pm (10:00 am to 1:00pm July and August) on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday each week.

The library has a large selection of books, videos, talking books and DVDs which can be hired for a small charge. There is also a childrens section.

NOTE! It has been reported that the Almanzora Group of Friends are moving premises; we would like to point out that this is not the case and we will be remaining at our existing premises for the foreseeable future.

An addition to the library facilities - Computer Games for hire.

The group hold regular social events. Quiz nights are popular events, and are held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month, 8:00pm for 8:30pm, at the Hostal Rosaleda which is located opposite the Bar Internacional on the main valley road (km75).

Coach trips and mini-holidays, dinner dances, car treasure hunts, etc. are also organised from time to time.

Information leaflets are also produced on various subjects to assist those living in Spain. These are available from the centre for a small charge.

At the centre there is also a list of translators to help with legal and medical matters. These are independent of the group and charges are to be negotiated with the translator directly.

Our staff have a wealth of information which is always available to members.

Subscription is €20 per couple per year. This includes a monthly newsletter, available from the centre at the beginning of each month.
