Velez Blanco, a guided tour – Thurs 1st June – €28
We visit one of the jewels of the Spanish Renaissance, the Castillo-Palacio that crowns the centre of the town. Constructed on top of the old Arab castle in the 16th Century, by the first Marqués de Los Vélez, it rises up more than 1000 metres, offering the most spectacular views of the surrounding area.
Then, a gentle stroll, downhill through the Moorish quarter, visiting the various fuentes, the High Street and Ayuntamiento, the Water museum, and then finish up at the San Luis Convent.
Lunch, with drinks, at the five star rated Bellavista restaurant.
Note: About one km of walking, mostly downhill on streets, some steep.

The City and Cave Houses of Guadix, 11th May 2017 – €29
Inland in the province of Granada is Guadix, considered one of the oldest human settlements in Spain. Its old town brings together an important heritage of monuments, with the medieval Arab Citadel, the Guadix Cathedral and various Mudejar-style buildings outstanding, although the most characteristic thing in the city the districts with original cave dwellings.
Guadix was also the location for many Hollywood films including Dr Zhivago, A Fistful of Dynamite and Indiana Jones.
We will take a panoramic trip on the Tourist train to the Caves area:
Stop at the Caves, visit the Ermita Cave (Sacred Cave), visit the Mirador and visit an inhabited cave.
Free time to visit the magnificent Roman Catholic Guadix Cathedral of the Incarnation. Construction of the building began in the 16th century and was completed in the mid-18th century.
Or just wander the city and marvel at the many historic buildings
Lunch will be buffet style in the beautiful and historic Palacio de Oñate hotel.

The Hanging Houses of Cuenca; 25-29th September 2017
Four nights B&B
Cuenca, a city set in the mountains of Castile–La Mancha was founded by Moors. It retains its Historic Walled Town with steep cobbled streets and medieval castle ruins. Perched on a limestone spur high above the Júcar and Huécar rivers, it’s most famous for its well-preserved “casas colgadas,” or hanging houses. Cantilevered over the Huécar gorge, they seemingly cling to the cliffs’ edges.

Deposits and/or payments are due when people book trips. We cannot take on line bookings or reserve places without payment. Non-members (if space available): plus €2 per day trip or per night for longer trips. Cheques only acceptable with €5 bank fee. Credit cards not accepted. No large cash sums taken on Saturdays. In case of cancellation deposits will be returned only if the seats are sold on. Please be advised to take out private travel insurance.
