The Almanzora Group of Friends was originally started in 1998 as a means of sharing information, and giving advice to people who had decided to move to this beautiful area of Spain – the Almanzora Valley.
The Group is totally self-funding and not affiliated to any political or religious organisation.
This quiz is no longer monthly. It is now held weekly on a Monday. At the end of the month the takings are divided equally between five charities/associations. These are: :Almanzora Group of Friends who donate takings to a charity of their choice (currently Caritas) AUAN, APSA, MACS, and PiRDA.
The format has not changed, they are still great fun and every week one lucky person gets to try to open the box. If they do not succeed the prize money rolls over and it can be a substantial amount by the time it is won..
They are still taking place at what was the Bar Unique. It closed down for a while in July but has reopened again as Copa’s (behind the Happy Garden restaurant). The quiz starts at 8:00 but you can enjoy a drink or a snack if you get there earlier. Hope to see you there one Monday.
Our Library and Information Centre is situated on Plaza San Antonio in Albox.
It is open Monday to Friday 10am until 1pm and the first Saturday of each month from 10am until 1pm.
The library has a large selection of books, videos, DVDs and computer games for adults and children and new titles are added every month.
We have a list of translators who can help with legal and medical matters. They are independent of the Group and charges should be negotiated individually.
The staff in the Centre are all volunteers who provide a friendly welcome and will try and help you with any information.
Coach trips, both days out and holidays, form an integral part of the Group’s activities and introduce members to other beautiful parts of Spain.
The subscription is 12 euros per annum and includes our monthly newsletter which can be picked up in the centre. Renewals are due in January.
