Food collection
Caritas Spain, founded in 1957, is the Catholic Church’s official organization in Spain for charity and social relief, instituted by the Spanish Episcopal Conference.
On March 9, 1981, It was registered as a religious entity with Spain’s Ministry of Justice.
In Spain, most families help each other. Caritas gives food to those who are unemployed, or in other unfortunate circumstances, and do not have this family support. With unemployment at 25% many people are struggling, especially in small towns where there are few opportunities.
At Christmas time they collect food donations from the community and make these up into parcels for the needy. This year there will be 2 days of food collection: Friday November 30th at Mercadona with four groups 9 -12, 12 – 3, 3 – 6, 6 – 9 and Saturday December 1st at Lidl (same times).
Caritas have asked if our members, their neighbours and friends would be willing to help their Spanish volunteers with these collections.
The committee have offered to take part (although we cannot be there on the morning of Saturday December 1st as this is our final 20th anniversary celebration Open Day). If you would like to join this worthy activity please let us know when you could be available.
Thank you in advance for your support.
