Message from the Committee: May 2026
In April we celebrated The Day of the Book and the rose by giving out free books and roses at the library.
Walk For Life – several of your committee took part again to raise money for this worthy cause.

Farewell to John Fry
As I advised by email last month, John passed away on Wednesday 8th April after a short illness.
John was a popular member, who came on all our trips and holidays, as well as being an avid reader of books in our library.
Having served in the Merchant Navy as a young man, he was well travelled and knowledgeable. He loved quizzing and even ran a couple of quizzes for us. He will be sadly missed.
Help wanted
Martin and Andrea and their team are proving so popular with the schools in Albox and Zurgena, that they have been approached by other schools to come and practice English with their students in an interactive way. But they need help.

No previous experience required; no formal contracts. Try it and see if it is for you. It is fun and very rewarding.
A couple of our centre team need to retire shortly and we will struggle to cover all our opening times. So please could you consider coming in for a couple of hours one morning to help us out. If you would like to offer your services, or just hear more about what is involved, please contact Kathy on almanzorafriends@gmail.com – and she will get in touch to arrange a chat.
Librarian – This is not an onerous task and can be carried out while we are open or closed. It is a matter of ordering new books, entering them (and donations) onto the system, deleting old ones, and keeping the catalogue up to date. If you would like more information, please email us and Shelagh will arrange to meet you.
Travel – We need someone to work with Frank to organise and attend the day trips. To find out what is involved, please contact Frank via our group email.
The Debatables Book Club
This is a free, friendly and non-judgemental Club; a social get together of people with a passion for reading and not only that! They have a few poem writers who are not shy to share their creations, and they encourage any sort of art and creativity enthusiasts to join them. Alongside the Book discussions, their Club brings a new format to the table which allows other topics to be ‘dissected’. Whether there’s a
new film that blew your mind, a delicious recipe that you must share with your friends, gardening advice or even a healthy tip that changed your life for better, they all want to hear it!
