Message from the President: March 2024

For several reasons we were not able to hold an AGM at the end of January. Instead, we had to carry out a ‘virtual’ version in February. My report on our activities over the year was emailed to members, including the re-election of the committee and ratification of co-options. A copy is in the Centre together with the end of year’s accounts – for any member to read.

When writing this at the beginning of February, we still have not found a replacement for Beryl Booth who had to resign in January. She was Vice President, Membership Secretary and Advertising coordinator. Chris Hurley has very kindly stepped in to cover the Membership role temporarily, and the committee is sharing advertising between them but we need permanent cover. We are allowed 12 committee members but only have 9 members at the moment. It is very difficult to run the group effectively without a full committee. Please ask one of us what it involves and think of joining the team. It really is not too onerous when there are 12 of us to share the load.

We are holding a St Patrick’s Day event on Saturday 16th March with some Irish surprises in store. Even I don’t know what is planned. Do come along and find out!

Finally, a reminder that our Easter closing dates are Thursday 28th and Friday 29th March.
