Message from the President: May 2023

Welcome to the merry month of May.

Thanks to all those who came to our pre Easter event in March and to the ladies who entered the Easter Bonnet competition. Congratulations to our three winners – Beryl Booth, Melanie Kitson and Marian Knobbs.

We are now planning our next event on Saturday 1st July, this time with lots of games in the Plaza (weather permitting). This is going to be fun so put the date in your diary now.

Our first quiz will be held on Wednesday, 3rd May, at Centro Municipal Recreativo de Mayores, Calle Ramon y Cajal 23, Albox. It will start at 11:00 followed by lunch.

The travel guys have been busy scouting out venues for days out, and in the pipeline we have: Monday, 22nd May a Mystery Lunch; 1st September a visit to Vélez-Blanco with lunch; October a Mystery Trip with lunch included.

Unfortunately for us Ian will be giving up his travel role at the end of the year due to a house move and other planned activities. Frank is happy to carry on but not alone. If anyone would be interested in joining him, particularly in planning day trips, please let us know so that he can have a chat and explain how it works.

We now have a Suggestion Box in the library. Please do give us feedback on our activities – trip suggestions; ideas for the magazine; events we could organise etc etc.

We are pleased to welcome onto the committee:

Martin Evans – who is hoping to get the Schools visits back up and running. Those of you who attended our event in September last year will remember his enlightening demonstration on food and drink. In February this year he and his wife, Andrea, entertained the children at the Instituto de Educacion Secundaria Les Cardinal Cisneros, Albox and they both felt they would like to do more to help the children practice the English they are taught at school.
